Philanthropy
Summer Philanthropy Sew Days: July 2, August 6
No cost–All are welcome!
Margie will be leading two more sew days this summer, with strip quilts and catching up on backs for finished tops on the schedule. Bring your machine if you’d like, or come and help with cutting, measuring, pressing, etc. If you’re in a sewing slump, this day will surely get you inspired! Can’t bring your machine? There will be measuring, ironing, and other FUN quilt tasks to keep you busy, plus, as always, the companionship of other quilt lovers.

Ultimate Goal
The ultimate goal of our Philanthropy group is to create quilts that bring comfort to those in need. These recipients include young children, adults in grief, the ill, abused, those who have lost their homes, orphans, and veterans. The impact of our quilts on these individuals is immeasurable. Our quilts have been received with gratitude by organizations such as the Dove Center, Youth Crisis Center, Dixie Regional Medical Center, Veterans Home, Orphanages, Police and Fire Departments, and many others.
Our meetings are held the first Thursday of every month.
Time: 9 am to Noon
Place: The Quilter’s Nook Annex, 344 E Sunland Drive, St George, lower level, in the back.
Our Philanthropy group offers a unique opportunity to learn and practice a variety of quilting techniques, including both traditional and innovative approaches. Members can contribute to this noble cause by piecing kits that are available at Guild meetings. These kits cater to skill levels from beginner to advanced. After piecing, the tops are returned to Philanthropy at a Guild meeting, where other members prepare the quilt sandwiches. Member volunteers machine-quilt the sandwiches, while others apply and stitch the binding. This is followed by others who attach a Dixie Quilt Guild label to the backs. All materials are donated to the Guild, and all labor is donated to make the quilts. Once completed, the quilts are donated to organizations that provide comfort to people of all ages during difficult times.
Preferred Quilt Size is 64″ X 80″
We appreciate all donations of materials and quilt tops from the Guild’s generous members, but we request that you limit tops to 64″ by 80″. We ask this for three reasons: 1) Getting larger quilts machine-quilted by our volunteers is difficult. 2) Different organizations that receive the quilts prefer smaller ones. 3) Larger quilts require more batting.
Thank you for keeping this in mind as you make tops for donation.
